The Panasonic HPX170 is the smallest DVCPRO HD palmcorder available. If offers solid state, file based recording using two P2 cards with the proven DVCPRO HD workflow and image quality. Two 16Gb P2 cards offer 86 minutes of record time in 720/24PN mode. The HPX170 combines the Panasonic film look and colorimetry through 24P Native recording and film gammas, 20 variable frame rates for over and under cranking, as well as 720/30P and 60P, 1080/24P, 30P and 60i and even DVCPRO 50 SD formats. Time lapse is easy with P2 cards, as is file transfer via Firewire to hard drives.
The HPX170 offers improved low light sensitivity and lower noise, HD SDI in addition to HD component and NTSC composite outputs, along with Firewire and USB date outputs. A built-in waveform and vectorscope aid in exposure and color control, there are three focus assist modes on the built-in LCD display which also shows thumbnail clips of recorded files for easy playback.
The HPX170 is an ideal camera for travel, as a B-camera for the HDX900 full size camera and, when used with the Letus Ultimate 35mm Cine adapter and 35mm SLR lenses, can record very filmic images with the selective depth of field not normally possible with 1/3” CCD imagers, all in a very small, lightweight package.
